 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I get involved?

A: There are several ways to become rooted in our family of believers. We encourage all of our regular attenders to plug in to a connection group. These small groups meet weekly in homes around Ames and in surrounding communities. If you're looking for ways to serve—on a regular basis or every once-in-a-while—check out our ministry opportunities. And if you're wanting to grow in your faith, we offer a variety of classes. We also host a variety of events, from picnics in the park to playtimes for moms & kids to conferences and retreats.

Q: How do I become a member of Cornerstone?
A: Anyone who has come to the point where they consider Cornerstone Church their home church is encouraged to prayerfully consider becoming a member. To pursue membership, you need to fill out an application. For an application and more information on membership, click here.

Q: Is Cornerstone Church part of a denomination?
A: Cornerstone Church is an evangelical church which focuses on contemporary worship and verse by verse teaching of the Bible. We associate with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist convention for the purpose of missions. We are also a member of the Willow Creek Association.

Q: How can I support Cornerstone financially?
A: We encourage every believer who participates in Cornerstone to give generously to provide for the needs of the church. Financial contributions may be placed in the offering boxes at the back exits of the auditorium, sent to our office or transferred electronically through our online giving system.

Q: Does the church have a counseling ministry?
A: Our pastors are available to counsel members and regular attenders of Cornerstone Church. Please call the office to set up an appointment.

Q: How do I schedule a wedding at Cornerstone?
A: Call or stop by our office and we will send/give you a wedding packet. For more information about our wedding policies and procedures, click here.

Q: Do the pastors perform weddings at other locations?
A: Yes, but only in Ames and surrounding communities. If you want a Cornerstone pastor to officiate your wedding, you must formally request him by filling out one of our wedding applications. If a pastor has to travel, there are specific expenditures which must be reimbursed. Also, be sure to request your date as early as possible before schedules become booked. For more information about our wedding policies and procedures, click here.

Q: What is the role of the elders?
A: The elders are the overseers ("shepherds") of this local church. They have the responsibility and authority to give pastoral leadership in the church. Elders must meet the qualifications found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. More information about the role of the elders is found in our church by-laws. Click here to request a copy of our by-laws. Click here for a directory of our current elders.

Q: Why do we believe that D6 Beginnings and D6 Weekend is the best place for children second grade and younger during worship services?
This allows everyone to have a fuller, more meaningful worship experience. The children are ministered to in an age-appropriate manner in their classrooms, and the adults and mature children in the auditorium are able to fully engage in the teaching and worship without distractions from the younger children.

Q: Why does Cornerstone have a theater-style auditorium?
A: We value the presentation of God's Word, and we believe that our auditorium allows us to effectively communicate the message of the Gospel through music, drama, video and the spoken word.
