The Arts

We love artists.

"Artists are the makers of culture. They express their worldviews in ways that shape the worldviews of others. Because they specialize in making their expressions appealing, their visions and values are uniquely persuasive to others. Their works are artifacts that embody the ideas, the emotions, and the philosophies of their time." - Gene Edward Veith

Before the church existed, God placed a high value on artists and set up clear direction for them. The Bible has a great deal to say about the arts, including the following passage from Exodus (35:30-36:1):

Then Moses said to the Israelites, "See, the LORD has chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts-to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of artistic craftsmanship. And he has given both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach others. He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as craftsmen, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them master craftsmen and designers. So Bezalel, Oholiab and every skilled person to whom the LORD has given skill and ability to know how to carry out all the work of constructing the sanctuary are to do the work just as the LORD has commanded."

The three values of our arts ministry can be found in the preceding passage.

Authenticity | "...and he has filled him with the Spirit of God..."
We ask and expect our artists to live one life, authentically pursuing God in all areas of their lives.

Excellence | "He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as craftsmen, designers..."
We believe that excellence honors God and inspires people.

Inclusiveness | "And he has given both [them] the ability to teach others."
We desire to include artists at all skill levels and from all generations.

When these values co-exist, we believe an environment is created where artists flourish.
