WHAT IS A PODCAST?
According to wikipedia.org, podcasting, a blend of Apple's "iPod" and "broadcasting", is a method of publishing files to the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed and receive new files automatically by subscription, usually at no cost. It first became popular in late 2004, used largely for audio files.
Think of a podcast as a radio show. Each show consists of a series of individual episodes that you can listen to how you want — on your PC, using your MP3 player, or with just a web browser.
You can listen to these episodes one at a time (say using your web browser) or you can 'subscribe' to the entire podcast series using software on your PC. When you subscribe to a podcast, all new episodes will be automatically downloaded to your computer as they are published. And if you have an MP3 player, the next time you sync your device, your podcasts will be downloaded for listening on the go.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PODCAST AND A DOWNLOAD?
Though podcasters' web sites may also offer direct download or streaming of their content, a podcast is distinguished from other digital audio formats by its ability to be downloaded automatically using software capable of reading feed formats such as RSS. In other words, you don't have to go to a specific web page each time you want to download a new podcast.
DO I NEED AN MP3 PLAYER TO LISTEN?
No. You can listen to a podcast using your desktop or laptop computer.
DO I NEED SPECIAL SOFTWARE TO LISTEN?
It depends. Some services allow you to simply click "listen" on their websites. However, if you want to subscribe to a podcast, you will need music player sofware (iTunes) or Internet Explorer 7.0. (Earlier versions of Internet Explorer do not offer this service. You must download the free upgrade here.) Or, you may subscribe to a Google feed.
HOW DO I SUBSCRIBE TO A PODCAST?
Use a web server that includes RSS feeds, such as iTunes, to search for a specific podcast. Once you find the podcast, you can choose to subscribe to the podcast or simply listen to it. Or, if using Internet Explorer 7.0 (earlier versions do not work) or Google, simply click the IE 7 or Google links or the RSS Feed icon on our pages and you will be directed to our feeds.
HOW DO I FIND THE CORNERSTONE PODCASTS?
For a general list of Cornerstone's podcasts, use the words CORNERSTONE CHURCH AMES PODCAST in the search box. For specific podcasts, such as weekend messages or Your Move, add those words to your search.
